WE'RE AN "ARK CHURCH"Last year the Genesis Sunday School class challenged the other Sunday School classes and the rest of the congregation to raise $5,000 to fill an ark for Heifer International. The Genesis class would contribute half that amount if the rest of the congregation would raise the remaining $2,500. Huffman met the challenge. Each person/family was given a small plastic ark (money bank) to fill with loose change and extra dollar bills. With the gift of $5,000 we are now considered an "ark church" by the well known and high respected Heifer International.
On Sunday, July 31, 2005, Rev. Cleo Kottwitz traveled to Huffman from the United Methodist Office of Creative Ministries in Columbia, MO to present our church with a beautiful plaque indicating we have filled our first ark.

What is Heifer International? Heifer Project International (HPI), founded in 1944, is dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for the earth. To achieve its goal, Heifer helps impoverished families become more self-reliant by providing them with food and income-producing animals. The gift is then passed on when those families give one or more of an animal's offspring to another family in need. In its six decades, Heifer Project International has helped more than 4.5 million families in 128 countries, including the United States, and has become the foundation for healthy farm herds on nearly every continent. What is the "Fill an Ark" Project? A Heifer Project Gift Ark is a gift of $5,000 which provides livestock and training that offer a sustainable, earth-friendly source of food and income while transforming the lives of hungry people. Heifer is a strong example of the adage of "teaching people to fish rather than giving them a fish."
These animals help families through wool, honey and milk and in dozens of other ways. Passing On The
